Open all hours

Opening new jars and bottles can be tricky for most people. There are gadgets in the shops to help but they were all a bit too expensive. So instead I bought a nonslip rubber mat and cut it into circular shapres. They're great for gripping hard-to-open lids and for removing light bulbs too. It's a particularly helpful tip for the elderly or people with arthritis.

Marble marvel

My kitchen cupboard was so cluttered I couldn't get to the herbs and sauces I used regularly. So I made my own Lazy Susan using two sandwich tins. After filling the first with marbles, I placed the other on top and fitted my jars and bottles into it. Then I popped it in the cupboard. It spins round perfectly so now I can reach whatever I need with ease.

Well gel!

My nine-year-old daughter Kiera needed somewhere to store her gel pens. So we cut a milk bottle in half, glued craft paper over it and then added some shiny coloured cellophane round the top. It looks great on her desk and she feels so proud that she made it herself.
