Did you know that one in 20 cases of cancer is caused by obesity? But according to Cancer Research UK, small changes can make a real difference to preventing this disease
Keep to a routine
Eat at roughly the same time each day. Scientists have found that people who have regular meal times feel less hungry before a meal and fuller afterwards.
Go for reduced fat… when you are eating foods such as dairy products, spreads and salad dressings.
Walk off the weight Aim for 10,000 steps a day and always take the stairs.
Pack a healthy snack Choose fresh fruit instead of biscuits or crisps. This will combat your hunger and curb your cravings for unhealthy food.
Check the label… for fat and sugar content. You might be surprised by how much fat and sugar is in what you consider ‘healthy’ food.
Use caution with your portions Don’t heap food on your plate and think twice before having seconds.
Get on your feet Don’t sit for long periods. Get up and move around.
Think about your drinks Choose water or sugar-free squashes and limit fruit juice to one glass a day.
Focus on your food Don’t eat on the go. Eating while distracted makes you eat more.
Don’t forget your five-a-day It can be fresh, frozen or tinned.
