Here’s what you need to eat and drink to protect your skin and counteract the effects of harmful UV rays

Green tea

As an antioxidant known for its anti-ageing benefits, it’s no surprise that green tea could also help protect your skin from the elements. In one study, green tea was shown to not only protect skin, but to improve elasticity and appearance over time. 

 

Carrots

They are rich in antioxidant carotenoids, which accumulate in the skin and help protect against UV damage. Cook the carrots, as you absorb the carotenoids better that way. 

 

Turmeric

Studies show that thanks to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, curcumin in turmeric may help protect our skin against sun damage. Turmeric has been scientifically proven to enhance skin, protect it against premature ageing, and support skin healing and cell renewal.

 

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is known to soothe the skin and treat sunburn when applied topically, but consuming it may also have great benefits for your appearance and overall health. Taking aloe vera as a drink or supplement could also have anti-ageing properties — one study found improvements in skin elasticity after taking an aloe vera supplement.

 

Pomegranate

Pomegranate seeds are rich in ellagic acid, which could help reduce skin wrinkling in response to UVB radiation.
