1 Be a child

In the science of happiness, we stop being truly happy at the age of 10 when we stop doing things for fear of looking foolish. Rewind the years and plan some childlike experiences with each other. Play Pooh sticks, blow bubbles in your drink or dare to skip!

2 Always have three things to look forward to together

Plan and commit to making them happen. They don’t have to be expensive — a picnic, long walk or a cinema night in. Ensure you have three things to look forward to over the next three weeks.

3 Talk about it

Every day tell your other half one thing that you love about them, as a reminder of what made you fall in love in the first place.

4 Work out how many weeks you have left together

The average life span is 4000 weeks. Calculate how many weeks you have left to share with this sum, and use it as a reminder that life is short, and time is precious, so make sure what’s left is happy.

5 Be kind

To yourself, to your partner and to others, so you feel a new level of gratitude for what you do have.
