If you or your kids are going to a festival this summer, here’s what you need to know…
1 Get your bearings
Festivals can be confusing, so check out your surroundings and know where key areas are such as toilets, camping areas, and first-aid and chill-out zones.
2 Stay hydrated
Temperatures can soar and staying hydrated is vital. Most festivals now have free water-refill stations, so take full advantage.
3 Protect yourself from the weather
Always wear the correct sun protection, even on cloudy days. And don’t forget extra layers of clothes for when it gets cooler at night.
4 Have a buddy system
If you’re staying overnight, set up camp near a lamppost or landmark — something you can easily find at night. If that isn’t an option, designate a meeting spot with your friends and make sure you have a buddy system to avoid getting lost.
5 Visit the medical tent
Medical tents are located throughout festivals and offer free care, so don’t be scared to visit one if you or a friend are feeling unwell and need reassurance or medication.
6 Keep alcohol intake to a minimum
If you’re going to drink, make sure you keep to a one-to-one ratio (a glass of water in between every alcoholic beverage). Don’t share, and don’t accept drinks from people you don’t know. Buy and pour your own to reduce the risk of drinks being spiked.
