Joe Brothwell
Joe Brothwell is Brand Editor of that’s life! magazine and the Editor of Take a Break Pets. He’s been at Bauer Media since 2014 and during that time has written for titles including Take a Break, Take a Break Fate & Fortune, Crime Scene, Bella and Closer.
As a youngster, Joe was inspired to become a journalist by his mum, who launched and edited a local newspaper. After studying English at Cambridge University, he completed a Masters in Magazine Journalism at City University.
An animal lover, in 2019 Joe launched Take a Break Pets magazine – a monthly real-life publication all about critters and the people who love them. It was the paw-fect role for him! From hamsters to ponies, goldfish to guinea pigs, Joe was surrounded by pets growing up, and he is currently a devoted cat dad to 11-year-old Winnie (she even has her own oil painting!) despite her continued aloofness. Speaking to vets and animal behaviourists for the magazine gave Joe a real insight into pet care and health and, alongside experts, he now often writes online articles on topics such as how to best travel with your dog and how much you should feed your cat.
When he’s not editing real-life magazines or writing about our furry, feathered and scaly friends, Joe is a keen cryptic crossworder, quiz show fan (he’s been on Pointless and The Weakest Link) and a huge fan of golden age detective fiction. He hopes to write a whodunnit one day – featuring a pet sidekick, naturally!
