Kids Week is back! And tickets go on sale today 10 June at 10am. So if there's a West End show you've been dying to see as a family, now is the time to bag yourself a bargain. Here's everything explained and our top choice of three unmissable family shows...

What is Kids Week?

It's a long-standing initiative organised by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT) that encourages young people to experience West End theatre.

A child aged 17 and under goes free when accompanied by an adult paying full price. Plus, an additional two children can attend for half price.

Kids Week performances will run from Monday 21 July to Sunday 31 August and tickets go on sale today Tuesday 10 June at 10am.

A whopping 54 shows are participating this year, including favourites such as The Lion King, Wicked, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

During Kids Week, some shows will run activity sessions or interactive curtain calls so you can get even more of an experience from your theatre trip. This can involve singing, dancing, acting and puppetry workshops, which can be booked alongside theatre tickets, but spaces are limited and allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Top three recommendations from a theatre loving mum of two young kids

Matilda The Musical

Both kids and adults will loved this multi-award winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company, inspired by the beloved book by Roald Dahl. I visited recently with my sons Odhran, 9, and Reuben, 7, and they've been singing songs from the show every day since. The book-filled stage set at Cambridge Theatre instantly pulls you into the story, and the songs and choreography are unbeatable. Matilda The Musical is an empowering story for kids, with strong messages about standing up for what's right and never feeling too small to make a difference. I've been to see this show three times and would go again! Suitable for ages 6 and up.

Back To The Future The Musical

I took Odhran to see this last year and we were blown away by the amazing special effects. It was great to indulge in this blast from the past, and to introduce Odhran to a part of 80s culture. He was totally engrossed in the storyline and enjoyed it so much he's asked several times to go see it again. After hearing his older brother talking about the show, Reuben is now really keen to see it, and that's the difficult thing about Kids Week - do you book to go see something new or something you loved and want to see again?! Back To The Future The Musical is a great choice for families with older kids and teens. At the Adelphi Theatre, suitable for ages 6 and up.

Starlight Express

Inspired after seeing Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express at the specially designed auditorium at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre last month, roller skates were top of Reuben's birthday gift wish list, and he's been whizzing round in them ever since. The stage for this uplifting show is incredible and we loved the high-energy performances and futuristic costumes and hairstyles. The boys have since enjoyed listening to songs from the show in the car and have pored over their special anniversary programme many times. Suitable for all ages but children under three will not be admitted.
