My daughter wanted a way to organise her revision cards. She found a cosmetic caddy that was the perfect size and cut down file dividers to fit inside too, so she could keep her cards in subject order. Now, it’s all nice and neat ready for study. And after her exams have finished, she’s got some extra storage for her beauty products.

My mum gave me her old sewing box so I could store my knitting needles and yarn. It was quite shabby, so I decided to give it a bit of a makeover. First, I sanded and painted the legs, then I covered the box with an old jumper that Mum had knitted. Now, it looks fab and my wool is much easier to find.

Cleaning my microwave out was sometimes a challenge, but I found the perfect solution. I filled a bowl a third full of water and added two or three slices of lemon. Then I popped it in the microwave and heated it for a few minutes until it was filled with lemony-scented steam. This loosened the grime enough so that I could just wipe around the inside with a cloth. It worked a treat and left my microwave smelling fresh too.

On the right rack
I needed to tidy up an area in my conservatory where I had lots of plants and other bits. When I found an old unused shoe rack in my shed I realised it would work perfectly. I popped it in there and filled it up with my plant pots and seedling trays. Not only has it tidied things up, but it’s created a lovely feature in the conservatory too.

Birthday tea
I was wondering what to give a friend as a gift, and after munching through a tube of Pringles, I had an idea. I arranged some bags of my friend’s favourite teas around the outside and popped a packet of biscuits to go with them inside the tube. She loved her tea and biscuits pressie — and I recycled a tube I would’ve thrown away.

Get it sorted6 of 6

She’s got it sorted!
To save time when it comes to doing the washing, I have two bags for life in my laundry bin. One is for lights and one for darks. I simply pop the clothes into the right bag and then it’s already sorted when it comes to the time to stick everything in the washing machine. It also stops any rogue dark clothes getting mixed in with the lights.
