Brainwaves weekly: crafts to try at home
Wrap STAR
My hamsters Neelix, Freya and Aurora, all had birthdays coming up, so I decided to wrap up their presents. I got some brown craft paper and wrapped it around their gifts. Then, I stuck some hamster postcards on to each gift, so they all had their own bespoke wrapping paper. Krissie Cope, Prestwich, Gtr Manchester
All round SUCCESS
When I bought some new curtains, I had lots of leftover curtain rings, so I decided to use them to make a scarf holder. I opened out a wire coat hanger and threaded on the rings before returning the hanger to its original shape. With the rings secure, I threaded my scarves through them. Now I can find my scarves with ease. Andrea Evans, Newcastle Emlyn, Carms
Necks PLEASE
As I get older, I find I'm becoming more forgetful when I want to remember items I need. Instead of being caught out by my own memory, I found a small notepad and a pen. I clipped some ribbon to the notepad and hung it around my neck. Now I always have a pen and a piece of paper with me — and I no longer forget all my bright ideas! Lesley Lea, Chardstock, Devon
Mobile ZONE
I wanted a mobile for my daughter. Not only were shop ones too pricey but none of them matched the nursery's woodland theme. Instead, I decided to make one myself. I bought a wooden mobile arm and some felt, which I used to create small woodland animals. I filled them with stuffing from an old cushion. Once they were ready, I threaded each one on to some yarn, added pom-poms, then tied them to the hanger. I love my home-made mobile. Chloe Clover, Cullompton, Devon
Claw and ORDER
My cat had destroyed the front of my drawers by using them as a scratching post. But instead of throwing the drawers away, I decided to give them a revamp. After stripping away the damaged material, I used leftover fabric to sew new linings for the wire-frame drawers. I added ribbon at the front for decoration. I think they look stylish and all they cost me was £3 and a bit of time and effort. Sarah Sculpher, Bristol
Don’t worry, be HOPPY
After my rabbits passed away, I repurposed their play area into a memorial garden feature. I created a rockery, then added a border made from wood I'd cut from a tree trunk. Finally, I glued stones in a heart shape on top of each tree trunk to represent the love I have for my bunnies. It makes me smile and is the perfect memorial to my beloved pets.
