Brainwaves weekly: customisable crafts
Fairy-tale ending
My granddaughter Evie and I decided to make a castle with some empty boxes and cartons. We glued the boxes together and added turrets and a drawbridge. Then we used papier-mâché to cover the card and painted the castle in bright colours. Now, it's a home fit for any princess. Diane Moore, West Kilbride, N Ayrs
Life is sweet
I wanted to make a bespoke present for one of my friends who has a sweet tooth. From the cupboard, I pulled out a piping bag, which I stuffed full of all her favourite sweets. Then I tied it at the top with a ribbon. Now, I can customise a bag of sweets for anyone. Maria Van Raalte, Norwich, Norfolk
Cup winner
My neighbour was getting rid of some unused china pieces, but I thought they were too pretty to throw away, so they let me have them. I thought the teacups would look cute as little decorative plant pots. So, I filled them with soil and planted some primulas in them. Now they're dotted around my garden and I think they look tea-riffic!Lorraine Watson, Lancaster, Lancs
Crate idea
I had lots of old apple crates lying around, so I decided to transform them into a storage unit. First, I painted them white. Once the paint had dried, I screwed them together, some horizontal and others upright. Now, I have a unique set of shelves that doubles as an entertainment hub. Pooch perfect
Whenever my dog Hector jumped on the sofa, he'd get mud all over the throws. Then, my husband suggested using a bathmat on the sofa for him to sit on instead. It's waterproof and has kept my sofa clean and dry. Hector loves it too!Carol Collins, Southwick, W Sussex
Jewel purpose
My jewellery kept getting tangled inside my jewellery box. So, I picked up some noticeboard pins and pinned them on to the side of my bookcase a few inches apart. Then, I hung my necklaces from the pins. Now, my jewellery is organised, doesn't get in a tangle, and I can easily pick out the right piece to match my outfit.Debbie McCarthy, Eastbourne, E Sussex
