Brainwaves weekly: easy DIY projects
Card of honour
My little boy Lucas and I love getting crafty together, so when I found a large cardboard box, we knew exactly what to make. I opened the box at each end and added two arm holes on either side. Finally, I added decorative circles on to the front. Lucas loves wearing his robot costume — even if he can't sit down! Natalie Ahmed, Nottingham
All the fun of the fur
On rainy days I wanted a place for my cat Woody to shelter in my garden. I bought an inexpensive rabbit hutch and gave it a lick of paint. Then I attached some new felt to the roof to make it weatherproof. Now Woody has a quiet spot for a lie down and a shelter from the rain. Faye Thurlwell, Poole, Dorset
Film star
I needed some moulds to make ice lollies. I found some empty film canisters and gave them a clean and then filled them with juice. I made a slit in the lid and popped a lolly stick in before popping them in the freezer. Once frozen, I pulled them out of the canisters. They were perfect and the lids helped to catch any drips too. Grow business
I have a small and shady garden, but I wanted to keep my herb and veg plants in the sun. Then I had a brainwave. I took a discarded bed board and old pine table and made a small trough. Then I fitted the trough with handles and two wheels from an old pushchair. With the wheels attached, I'm now able to move my plants into the sun — it's great for my tomatoes!Roger Gomm, Woking, Surrey
Sitting pretty
As my granddaughter had an old bed frame that she no longer needed, my husband Les put it to good use. First he used the headboard and footboard to form the back and front of a bench. Then he used the metal frame to join the two boards together. Finally he used planed roof batons for the seat. Now we have outdoor seating for when the family visit! Angela Dixon, Malvern, Worcs
Hole lotta love
Every time I needed a screwdriver I couldn't find the right one because my toolbox was a mess. So my father-in-law Barry inserted holes into a piece of decking — one for each screwdriver. Then he attached the decking on to the wall to make a shelf. Now my screwdrivers are neatly organised and I don't waste precious time searching for the right tool.
