Brainwaves weekly: from artwork to storage
All by my shelf
As my mum Sylvia has limited storage space in her bathroom, she didn't have room for a shelving unit. Instead, I found an old hanging storage shelf and hung it from her shower curtain rail. Now Mum can keep her towels neat and tidy and she always knows what she has to hand. Karen Dirs, Kegworth, Derbys

When I noticed my rescue dog Tillie was feeling the cold, I had an idea. I grabbed an old jumper from the back of my wardrobe and cut off the sleeves. Then I sewed the bottom of the jumper together, leaving space for Tillie's legs. Now she's always nice and toasty when we go out for walks.Jan Lawrence, Magherafelt, Co Derry
The only way is up
After one of the rungs broke on the ladder up to my son Ethan's bed, I decided to replace it. I moved a shelving unit into his room then covered the tops of it with artificial grass. Ethan loves the new steps up to his bed and the shelves have given us some extra toy storage space too.Jason Cartlidge, Telford, Shrops
Stroke of genius
My daughter Evie, two, would get frustrated when her paper moved about while she was using her paint brushes. She'd end up making a mess on the table too. So I decided to tape a piece of white paper on to the desk. Now Evie can paint happily and there's no mess for me to clean up afterwards!Amanda Hadley, Cradley Heath, W Mids

I'd just moved into a new home and was short of money to splash out on nice wall art. I gathered some leftover fabric from a previous project, cut it into strips and arranged them inside a frame. I added some dried flowers on top of the fabric before carefully closing the frame. Now I have some lovely art that didn't cost me a penny. Naomi Horan, Doncaster, S Yorks
