Brainwaves weekly: from wrapping paper to gardening

Blind ambition1 of 6

Blind ambition

My new bathroom blind was an inch too wide for the window. So, I trimmed it to size but instead of throwing the excess fabric away, I decided to use it. I cut it into four pieces and used it to frame my shaving plug. I think having a matching pattern on the wall looks great.Lynne Vickerstaff, Derby

Look who’s chalking

After lots of arts and crafts sessions with my daughters, Robyn, seven, and Georgia, four, my table had started to look worse for wear. To freshen it up, I painted it with white chalk paint. But it looked a bit boring, so I painted on our favourite Disney character, Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast, and a little quote too. My kids love their one-of-a-kind Disney table. Gripping yarn

I was fed up with getting grass and insects in my wellies while I walked in fields near my home. But when I found some old Lycra leggings in my wardrobe, it gave me an idea. I cut the legs off so they were like leg warmers. Then I put them on my legs upside down, so the ankle band gripped my knee before pulling them down over the top of my boots. They work a treat.Laura Armstrong, Stalybridge, Gtr Manchester

I'd decided to make some personalised wrapping paper. I bought a plain roll of parcel paper then used a potato and a carrot to print a pattern on it with silver paint. My kids helped me with the printing and they had great fun. I can't wait to personalise the next batch of paper.Maria Bontoft, Ravenshead, Notts

Seeds the moment5 of 6

Seeds the moment

When I planted some seedlings in the garden, I wanted to give them extra protection. So I cut the top and bottom off an old plastic milk bottle and used the middle section to create a tube. Then I placed that over my plants. Now they're growing well, safe from windy weather and garden pests.Rose Janes, Monmouth

Power to the pebble6 of 6

Power to the pebble

I've collected pebbles for years. I decided to use my collection to create a picture. I got a piece of white card and arranged some pebbles into a pretty pattern. After sticking them down with a glue gun, I framed my picture and hung it on my wall. My friends have now asked me to make pictures for them too.Karen Hill, Caernarfon, Gwynedd
