Brainwaves weekly: fun crafts

Perfect blend
I had some coffee tins I was going to chuck in the recycling, but I decided to find a better use for them. I spray-painted them dark brown and potted some house plants into them. Then I used some leftover string from another craft project to create simple macramé plant pot hangers for my new tin planters. I enjoyed making them and they look lovely hanging up around the house.Karen Dirs, Kegworth, Derbys

King of the catwalk
I spotted a cat climbing frame when I was out shopping but it was too pricey. So, I spent the next two days skip-surfing for timber, underlay and carpet to make my own. I built two towers, which I joined together with a rope bridge. My cats Lucy Lu, Daisy and Finn love their new play area and will often tip-toe along the bridge during the night. Super cool
There's nothing better than enjoying a glass of prosecco in the garden. I used to pop an ice cube in my glass to keep it chilled. But then I decided to freeze a bit of my fizz so when I pour it out, my glass stays chilled, but my drink doesn't get watered down. Maria Van Raalte, Norwich, Norfolk

Top table
I had an old table that I no longer needed, so I turned it into a garden ornament. I turned the table upside down, so the tabletop became the base then I painted it all grey. Finally, I put a planter in the middle and secured some hanging baskets from the table legs. It has created a really unique focal point in my garden.Veronica Hayward, Tonbridge, Kent

Clean colours
I wanted my nine-month-old son Jacob to enjoy the sensory experience of playing with paint, but without all the mess. So, I squirted a few blobs of paint on to a sheet of white paper before sealing the paper inside a zip lock bag. Jacob can smudge the paint around to his heart's content — and I don't have to wash loads of paint off him and the table.Fiona Smith, Redhill, Surrey

Lotta bottle
After my old peg bag broke, I grew tired of using a carrier bag to store my pegs on the washing line. My husband David took an old milk carton from the recycling and gave it a wash. He cut off the side of the carton, so I could put the pegs inside it, and an inch off the handle, so I could hook it on to my line while I hang the laundry out. It works a treat!Lindsey Kilburn, Barnsley, S Yorks
