Brainwaves weekly: toilet roll crafts
Bright IDEA
Every year, I grow sunflowers and I always start them off by planting the seeds in toilet roll tubes. I put the tubes into boxes, fill them with compost and push a seed in each one. Then I leave the boxes on my kitchen windowsill to sprout. Once the seedling looks ready, I plant them out in my garden and watch them grow into sunny giants all summer long. Avis Burston, Heywood, Gtr Manchester
I could be so PLUGGY
I had lots of electronic leads, wires and cables that were all disorganised and kept getting tangled. So I saved lots of empty cardboard tubes, then neatly tied each cable and popped it inside its own tube. Now all my wires are tangle-free and organised. You can even write a description of each wire on the cardboard tube, to remember which one is which. Diana Richards, Colchester, Essex
Spread ALERT
The birds needed feeding in my garden. So I saved up some loo roll tubes, slathered them in peanut butter, then rolled them through a plate of mixed birdseed. Once I'd done that, I hung the tube on to a tree branch. It's an easy bird feeder to make at home — and the birds love it too! Katherine Harding, Swansea
Inner BOOTY
My boots started to slouch but I was reluctant to spend money on a product to support them. When I finished a roll of wrapping paper, I cut the empty cardboard tube in half and put one length in each boot. Now, my boots stand tall in my wardrobe without any creases. Diane Godden, Ashford, Kent
You raise me UP
When I started working from home, I had too much computer equipment for my desk. But I came up with the perfect solution. I cut four holes into each corner of a strong, flat box. In each hole, I secured an empty toilet roll tube to create a platform for my laptop to sit on. Now I have more space on my desk to work. Nicola Cowan, Stenhousemuir, Falkirk
Fun of the FUR
To keep my cat Gracie out of mischief, I decided to make a puzzle. I put lots of cardboard tubes into a box then placed cat treats in different tubes. She had hours of feline fun fishing them out. Logan Suddaby, Blairhall, Fife
