Top 5 mini DIY projects
Wallflower
I wanted to decorate my three-year-old daughter Olivia's room without spending too much. I found a thin piece of wood and drew a flower on it. My partner Matthew cut it out using an electric hand saw, then I painted it with acrylic paint. I spread glue on the top to make it smooth and glossy, then glued a picture frame hook to the back. It was quick to make and looks really bright and cheerful. Sintija Plesa, Bedford
Frame at last
I wanted a drinks tray to match my décor, so I decided to make one myself. I bought a cheap picture frame and grabbed some wallpaper samples in coordinating colours. Then, I cut the wallpaper to size and put it inside the frame — and voilà! One fancy drinks tray that matches my room perfectly. Louise Couldry, Whitby, N Yorks
Game, set, match
My duvet set only came with one printed pillowcase and one plain, boring one. To liven it up I printed some butterflieson to photo transfer paper, cut them out and ironed them on. I'm really pleased with how it turned out and it matched the rest of my set perfectly.Alison Balch, Strensall, York
Bloom bottle
I wanted to make a display of artificial flowers for my home. So I cut the bottoms from some plastic water bottles and trimmed them into a simple flower shape. Next, I carefully melted each one over a tealight to open up the flower and shape the individual petals before leaving them to cool and set. Then I painted the flower details and attached a green stick to the underneath.Carol James, Malpas, Cheshire
Cake, rattle and roll
For my wedding anniversary, I wanted to create a retro cake stand. I slotted cake-stand fittings through the holes in old vinyl LPs and screwed them together. All our guests thought it was a wonderful idea. Richard Emerson, Humberston, Lincs
