Also known as magnesium sulphate, this versatile bathroom staple boasts many uses
Bruise control
Got a bruise that won’t go? Dissolve one scoop of Epsom salts in warm water, take a flannel and soak it in the salty solution. Apply the hot compress to the bruised area, repeating as needed for maximum effect.
Hay fever help
If you’re feeling congested, sprinkle a few handfuls of Epsom salts on the base of your shower, hop in and get it nice and warm. The combination of the steam and the salts will work wonders. Alternatively, pour boiled water into a bowl, add a couple of tablespoons of Epsom salts and rest your head over the bowl with a towel over the top. Breathe in the steam and let your sinuses clear.
Weed killer
Add one cup of Epsom salts, two litres of white vinegar and an eighth of a cup of washing-up liquid to a spray bottle and shake until blended. Leave it to settle for two minutes, soak the entire weed and wait a day, then inspect and repeat as needed until the weeds are eliminated.
Scalp scrub
As a gentle exfoliator, the salts work to buff away dead layers of skin and rebalance the scalp. Simply mix a small handful of salts with your regular shampoo and massage into the scalp before rinsing thoroughly.
Foot soak
Best done at bedtime, grab a bowl and fill it with warm water and salts. Rest your feet in the bowl, allowing all the hot energy to travel down to the feet, calming the rest of the body for sleep.
