Why do we need it in winter?

Many of us struggle from vitamin and mineral deficiencies during the colder months. Winter is cold and flu season, and cold conditions make us more prone to illness, so having enough vitamin C can boost the immune system and keep the bugs at bay.

What happens if you don’t have enough?

Low levels of vitamin C can cause irritability and low moods, dry skin and hair, increased bruising, fatigue and bleeding gums.

Which foods is it in?

It’s abundant in fresh, dark leafy vegetables, for example kale and spinach. Also go for brightly-coloured fresh fruits and veggies such as kiwi, oranges, blackcurrants, strawberries, peppers and tomatoes. If you find it a struggle to eat your five-a-day, try juicing.
