It’s the home of inexpensive furniture and home accessories. But with a bit of creativity you can transform some its most basic products into something unique. Here are some of our favourite ideas...
Super-simple IKEA hacks
Snappy design
This is the perfect way to display your favourite snaps and all you need is a Stajlig hanger (£3 for a 5 pack) and some Syrlig curtain rings (£3.50 for a pack of 10).
Spice up your life
Give the Flisat dolls house (£25) a little makeover and it turns into the perfect spice rack for your kitchen. Before you assemble it, give it a lick of paint to match your colour scheme and add wallpaper to the back inside panels.
Bringing the outside in
Terrariums are back in the fashion, so why not create your own using a Borrby lantern (£7). Use Kwik Seal adhesive sealant to seal up any gaps at the bottom. Leave it to dry before adding a layer of pea gravel, a layer of soil, some live moss and ferns or other shade-dwelling plants.
Stylish storage
Decoupage is a great way to customise a Moppe mini chest of drawers (£17). Just cut some scraps of wallpaper or wrapping paper to fit the drawer fronts then stick them on using decoupage or PVA glue. For a final touch spray the rest of the box with spray paint.
Put your stamp on it
Light shades cam be expensive but why not take a simple Regolit paper lamp shade (£1.75) and customise it to match your décor? Use poster paint to create a geometric design, or rubber stamps and ink to add a pattern.
Get it taped
Brightly coloured Washi tape is all you need to transform this Bekvam Step Stool (£20) into something more striking.
Make mine a pint
Turning this Vurm 4-bottle wine rack (£10) into a miniature herb garden is ingenious. Mount it horizontally then stick some pint glasses planted with herbs in the holders. These glasses have been dipped in chalkboard paint so you can add the name of your herb along the bottom.
Furry nice
Add a touch of glam to a simple metal Marius stool (£4) by giving it a faux fur makeover. Stick on a layer of foam to make it more comfy then use spray adhesive to stick on your faux fur fabric. For an extra touch spray paint the legs a different colour.
Living colour
Give a plain pine Ivar cabinet (£45) a pop of colour by spray painting some wooden spindles then attaching them to the bottom to make legs.
