Customer review: "Booked last minute to take my kids (18 and 14) away for a few days. With my dog. We are used to international travel so were apprehensive about what to expect with a UK break. Absolutely blown away. Due to being last minute ended up with a fishing lodge (I don’t fish!) but that meant we were on a quiet lake with a stunning view. I will pretend to be a fisherman again just for this! Welcome packs: human one had Prosecco, fizzy shloer-type pop for the kids, milk in the fridge. Tea and coffee and some lovely Viennese biscuits. Shower gel and handwash etc. dishwasher also had four days worth of dishwasher tablets. Doggy welcome pack was a lovely touch. Branded tennis ball (my lab is obsessed!) and a doggy fleece blanket, doggy paw-fume, poo bags with a dispenser and some paw wipes.

"The lodge itself was clinically clean. I was amazed. I am snobby and only normally stop in “nice” hotels. But the lodge and the cleanliness made this for me. Beds were pristine. Kitchen and bathroom well above standard I had expected and despite me having a dog and it being a dog friendly lodge there was not one dog hair/trace of a dog having previously stayed. The housekeeping team are literally worth their weight in gold for this!! Hot tub was immaculate and was checked/treated twice a day by site staff. Very professional and unobtrusive. In/fuss dog/sort hot tub/out again. A great team. I could not have asked for more for my first UK stay experience. Will definitely return!!"

Pros

  • Dog-friendly menu in one of the on-site restaurants
  • Welcome pack for those staying in Exclusive accommodation
  • Facility for the whole family within the resort

Cons

  • 10pm curfew for hot tub use

FAQs

Is it safe for dogs to get in a hot tub?

As much as many pups love the water, it really isn't safe for dogs to get in a hot tub. The high temperatures and chemicals used to keep hot tubs in tip-top condition can be super dangerous for dogs.
To start with, dogs are more sensitive to heat than humans and when exposed to high temperatures, they typically overheat, which can lead to heatstroke. As much as we humans find plunging into the hot water relaxing and therapeutic, if we expose our dogs to the hot water in the hot tub, it could quickly escalate to a life-threatening situation for your pooch.
The chemicals commonly used in hot tubs, such as chlorine and bromine, can irritate a dog's skin, eyes and respiratory system. If your dog were to swallow some of the hot tub water or lick their fur after being in a hot tub, it could cause an upset stomach, gastrointestinal problems and other health issues for your dog.
If your dog were to accidentally get in the tub or swallow some of the water while you were on your dog-friendly holiday with hot tub, you would want to contact a vet for advice on the next steps. That's why we would recommend researching local vets to where you are planning on staying in case of emergencies.

Essentials for travelling with dogs

Having to remember everything you and your family may need for a holiday is stressful enough, but throw in packing for your pooch as well and you're bound to forget something. To help you know what exactly your pup will need on their holidays, pet insurance provider, Petplan, has put together a list of essentials:

Lead: it may be helpful to take a spare in case this gets lost or breaks.
Dog carrier: if driving to your destination with dogs, you’ll need a harness, boot guard, pet seat belt or carrier to ensure they’re safely secured for the duration of your journey.
Bedding: taking your dog’s familiar bedding will help them settle into a new place.
Waste bags: to ensure you’re cleaning up after your pup on walkies.
Dog food and bowls: ideally, you’ll want to bring enough food for the duration of your trip but you should also research stockists of your pet’s fave food nearby to where you’re staying in case you run out.
Travel bowl and water bottle: handy for on the move and helpful for making sure your pup is fed and watered wherever you go.
Plenty of treats: to reward good behaviour and help them settle.
Towels: to dry their fur and wipe their muddy paws after wet walkies on a nearby dog-friendly beach or woodland area.
Collar and ID: make sure these have your up-to-date contact details in case your pup gets lost.
