How do I get my pet to wear clothes?

Whether you want your furry friend to wear a jumper, coat or a pet costume, you should allow your fur baby time to get used to wearing clothes. You should begin by gradually introducing your furry friend to them, allowing them to explore and sniff them so they get used to them in their own time.

When they interact positively with the item of clothing, you should use positive reinforcements, such as offering treats and toys and giving lots of praise so they build up a happy association with clothes. Once your pet seems comfortable with this, you can start putting the clothing on them for short periods and increase the duration slowly to get them used to it.

You should choose clothes that are well-fitting and comfortable, so your pet likes to wear them and always monitor your pet’s behaviour while they wear them to spot signs of distress and discomfort.

If your pet really doesn’t like to wear clothes, you should never force them to put anything on and respect their preference to not wear them.
